First off the Plunge would like to apologise, for this late match review i'm sure you are all waiting on it with bated breath. However, this was unavoidable due to attending one of her majestys holiday camps for non payment of fine.
Although beaten in their last game, Thistle travelled to the Renton in confident mood after hard work on the training ground. Thistle kicked off in good fashion, having the best of the early exchanges. With the little general controlling the back line, Steins started to gain the upper hand with Snedi, the puppet master, and skipper for the day Foxy, pulling the strings. Although the playing surface was difficult due to the extremely bumpy pitch Steins tried to play the ball on the carpet and it was in the 27th minute that five million pound signing Casey took full advantage of a dithering Dumbarton defence. When he fired home from close range to give Steins the slender lead. With great wing play from both Wright and Kay, Steins were penetrating the Dumbarton defence frequently and it was 6 minutes later, in the 33rd minute when the puppet master drove through the heart of the defence leaving a trail in his wake and Snedi proded home past the helpless keeper. This was indeed a fine individual effort, Steins were now at full tilt and the impressive Frazer Kay, slammed the ball, into the roof of the net from twenty yards. Steins came off at the break, three to the good. At the break I'm sure the message was more of the same, however they started the second half in sloppy fashion, when Brown gave possession away cheaply and Dumbarton gave Steins a warning shot. Steins failed to take this warning, and ten minutes into the second half, the Dumbarton striker was able to pull the ball in, turn and fire home unchallenged. At 3-1 the game now turned very sloppy indeed with Steins losing their shape and direction. The coaching staff wasted no time, and quickly changed the luckless Henderson for fans favourite Slater. Slater went on to play inside, outside, left hand side, and centre wing. This failed to make any real impression and Thistle continued to struggle their way through the last half hour. Although the three points were indeed welcome Steins left feeling as though they hadn't fully done themselves justice and look forward to trying to put this right in the next match.
Yours, keeping out of trouble. The Plunge.
